AIM Launches the Asian Journal

The Asian Institute of Management (AIM) is pleased to introduce the AIM Journal of Asian Management (AIMJAM), a publication for academicians and practitioners which focuses on issues related to the Asian region. AIMJAM was launched on February 28, 2009.

The first issue of AIMJAM is a special issue devoted to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). CSR is increasingly viewed as a critical component in operating in a global environment, and its role in society is perceived as even more critical given the economic crisis and the ecological problems that the world faces. Four articles related to CSR issues were selected from the central themes of the seventh annual Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility (AFCSR), sponsored by AIM and held in Singapore on November 20-21, 2008. The four CSR themes identified in the conference were (1) collaboration between businesses and stakeholders in CSR; (2) developing useful CSR metrics; (3) stages, issues, and trends in the evolution of CSR; and (4) communication of CSR to the public and other stakeholders. There is also a Research Note analyzing the contents of the Asian CSR Awards over the years.

The first issue of AIMJAM was dedicated to the memory of the late Ambassador Ramon V. del Rosario Sr., a captain of Philippine industry, a benefactor, friend, and staunch supporter of AIM, and the driving force behind the AIM Ramon V. del Rosario Sr. Center for Corporate Social Responsibility and the AIM Ramon V. del Rosario Sr.-C.V. Starr Center for Corporate Governance.

After the first publication, a subsequent issue may focus on development concerns. Thereafter, AIMJAM plans to publish scholarly articles that cover both academic and practitioner-driven Asian management issues, which will be targeted to academicians, business executives, organizational leaders, and government technocrats.

The editors wish to thank the contributors to this issue and the research associates who were instrumental in summarizing many of the presentations during the AFCSR. We welcome comments from readers and hope the first issue addresses some of the key issues related to corporate social responsibility.

The first issue of AIMJAM was co-edited by Prof. James P. Neelankavil of the Zarb School of Business, Hofstra University, and Prof. Francisco L. Roman of AIM.
