AIM's Involvement in Good Governance

The World Bank, in partnership with the Asian Institute of Management and the Ateneo School of Government, gathered representatives from local governments, civil society organizations, and academic institutions to discuss best practices in good governance and ethical leadership. These advocates convened at the Asian Institute of Management Conference Center Manila for three days on November 4-6, 2009.

The conference, called Panibagong Paraan for Good Governance 2009 (New and Innovative Ways in Good Governance), highlighted how local government officials have successfully empowered their constituents, partnered with civil society organizations for better public service delivery and protection of disadvantaged groups, enhanced transparency and social accountability. The event likewise dwelt on how all these can be used to make growth work for the poor.

Among the speakers were Ramon Magsaysay Awardee and Naga Mayor Jesse Robredo, AIM Center for Development Management Associate Dean Mike Luz and World Bank country director Bert Hofman. AIM Development Resource Center Director Henry Grageda guided sessions on Public Private Sector Partnership and discussions for the next Medium Term Philippine Development Plan being developed by senior World Bank staff.
